7th Distinguished Law Lecture Series 2017 on 'Ethics and Values' held at UAP

 

When our family and social tie is lost our collective values is lost too, but when it becomes stronger, then our values grows stronger, said Dr. Shamsul Bari, Chairman of Research Initiatives, Bangladesh (RIB), in the 7th UAP Distinguished Law Lecture Series 2017. The lecture was organized by the Department of Law and Human Rights, University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on Thursday, 27 July 2017 in its permanent campus at Green Road, Dhaka.

Being invited as Distinguished Speaker, Dr. Bari talked on Ethics and Values. By highlighting the importance of values on person, family and on society he said that values constitute our those thoughts, beliefs and credence essential to operate our life and activities to the right way. He also mentioned that education is the most significant stuff to create values. But the purpose of education should not be kept limited to gathering knowledge but to creating the human feelings and morality. For this purpose, the first and foremost needed thing is to create an affinity of education with values. Mr. Dr. Bari also emphasized that every person should make decisions in his life on the basis of values not of emotion.

The Department of Law and Human Rights regularly organizes the UAP Distinguished Law Lecture Series in order to facilitate young law students with an opportunity to interact with senior advocates, judges and scholars of the country and to ensure quality legal education in Bangladesh. Among others, Chief justice of Bangladesh His Excellency Mr. Surendra Kumar Sinha, High Court Division judge Mr. Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, Constitutional law Jurist late Mr. Mahmudul Islam, Eminent Jurist Dr. Kamal Hossain, Former Attorney General Mr. A F Hassan Arif spoke in the previous UAP Distinguished Law Lecture Series.

The 7th UAP Distinguished Law Lecture Series 2017 was presided over by Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of UAP. Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Assistant Professor in Law at the UAP, moderated the program. In his remark Dr. Jamilur Reza Chowdhury said that if you have integrity that matters but if you do not have integrity nothing matters and to be successful in life, one must achieve the virtues of values. While Ms. Nazia Wahab, Head of the Department, concluded the program by giving vote of thanks.
